Hello and welcome!
I’m Dr. Veena Angle, a doctor (MBBS) with specialization in Microbiology (MD), gut wellness enthusiast, medical content creator (LinkedIn), and mom to two picky eaters and a food-loving husband. I know firsthand how overwhelming it can feel to balance nourishing your family with real food while also taking care of your own health. That’s why I created Gut Health From Scratch—a space where science, food, and healing meet.
My journey into gut health began not in a clinic, but in my own kitchen.
As a doctor, I’ve always believed in prevention over prescription. But it was my personal experience, watching my family’s digestion, immunity, and moods shift with the food we ate, that truly convinced me of the importance of gut health. As I researched the advancements in the gut microbiome, I realized that many modern ailments stem from poor gut health. And though no pharmaceutical company will accept it, the foundation for gut healing begins with simple, natural, food-first strategies.
Today, I help individuals and families restore their gut health using a functional, root-cause approach—starting with food, lifestyle, and sustainable habits. I offer easy, gut-supportive recipes that make eating from scratch doable, even on the busiest days.
Here on the blog, you’ll find:
- The science behind how our gut controls our health
 - Wholesome recipes made with real ingredients
 - Natural remedies and lifestyle strategies to support your digestion, mood, and immune system
 - Coaching insights to help you reset your gut and reclaim your energy

Whether you’re struggling with bloating, fatigue, or want to feel good again, I’m here to guide you, one meal and one mindset shift at a time.

What is Gut Health and Why is it Important?
Gut health means having a healthy diversity of microbes in your intestines. Here are a few facts:
- We have almost as many microbes in our gut as the cells in our body.
 - Collectively, these microbes have 100 times more genes than humans.
 - There is increasing evidence that this collection of microbes, aka the gut microbiome, plays an important role in immunity, mental health, and nutrition.
 - There is also evidence that an imbalance in the type of microbes and their numbers can lead to the development of many diseases, including diabetes, multiple sclerosis, inflammatory bowel disease, arthritis, cancers, autism, and depression, to name a few.
 - The secret to having a healthy gut lies in the food we eat.

The incidence of all these diseases is increasing at an alarming rate, contributed to by our failing gut health.
- What is causing this failure? It is an increased consumption of processed, preservative-loaded, sugar-rich foods, all of which are toxic to the gut microbiome.
 - How do you reverse this trend? By removing these toxic foods from your pantry and going back to cooking fresh food from scratch.
 - Is that possible on a daily basis for a family that needs to juggle careers, kids and recreation? Yes, it is!

Whether you’re new to gut health or already on your journey, I’m here to guide you with tips and tricks, adapted to the modern family’s busy schedule.
Let’s get on the journey to better Gut Health From Scratch!
Warmly,
Veena
